If the Jonah Sign Falls, the Scriptures Fall with It

"How that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures;

"And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures" (1Co_15:3-4).

The very Word of God is true or false, dependable or not dependable, upon the Jonah sign. If Christ did not rise from the dead, the Scriptures are no more than fables, and fanciful tales.

Perhaps there are but a few who really know how the resurrection of Christ is voiced in the Word of God.

1. In the opening chapter of the Bible we think we have the resurrection of Christ set forth in type, by the earth being brought from its watery grave on the third day, and by God’s command, "Let the dry land appear."

2. In Genesis 14, we see the resurrection of Christ set forth by the ark resting on Ararat on the seventeenth day of the month. Compare 1Pe_3:21.

3. We have in Genesis 22, a type of the resurrection, in the three days’ journey of Abraham and Isaac, and in the altar and the delivered son. Compare Heb_11:19.

4. In Genesis 41, Joseph delivered from prison after three years of confinement, is a type of the resurrection.

5. In Exodus 14 we see in Israel’s passing through the sea three days after the slaying of the Passover lamb a picture of the resurrection.

6. In Jos_3:2, Jos_3:17, it was after three days that Israel passed over the Jordan–a type again of Christ’s resurrection.

7. Besides the above in many passages, Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead. He who repudiates the Jonah sign and denies the resurrection of our Lord, repudiates the Word of God. The two stand or fall together.
