0281. Daniel's Endictment: (D) Thou Hast Not Glorified God
Daniel’s Endictment: (D) Thou Hast Not Glorified God
"And the God in Whose hand thy breath is, and Whose are all thy ways, thou hast not glorified" (Dan_5:23).
It is passing strange that man is willing to receive lavish blessings from the hand of God, but unwilling to glorify that God.
The great sin that overthrew Nebuchadnezzar was expressed in the words, "This great Babylon which I have built * * by the might of my power."
The great sin of which Moses warned the children of Israel is of the same order. "Beware lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses * * when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, when thy silver and gold is multiplied, and all thou hast is multiplied; * * lest thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth" (Deu_8:11-17).
The same danger is seen in the "rich fool" of Luke. The rich fool said, "My fruits," "My barn," "My goods," "My soul." God said, "Thou fool."
How many of us leave God out altogether, or else put Him in, in some obscure way. How many self-centered egotists we have! Of the ten lepers healed, Christ said:–"There hath returned but this one to glorify God."
"Lord help us to remember our sacred debt,
O, by the love that sought us,
O, by the Blood that bought us,
Lord, let us not forget,
O, let us not forget."
If our breath and all of our ways are in the hands of God, it behooves us to recognize Him. If all that we have is from Him, surely all that we do should glorify Him.
"The earth is the Lord’s and the fulness thereof" (1Co_10:26, 1Co_10:28).
"If I, by grace, be a partaker" (1Co_10:30).
"Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God" (1Co_10:31).
He hath given us all things richly to enjoy, shall we cease to praise Him?
When the redeemed stand before the throne of Christ, then will they rend the heavens with glad acclaim as they glorify the Lamb of God. Then will the living ones, and the four and twenty elders, and innumerable angels say with a loud voice: "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory and blessing." Then will every creature that is in Heaven and on the earth and under the earth, and such as are in the sea say: "Blessing and honor, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth on the throne, and unto the Lamb, forever and ever."
Poor, deceived, boastful, selfish Belshazzar, hear thine indictment: "And the God in Whose hand thy breath is and in Whose hand are all thy ways, thou hast not glorified."
Come, sinner, bow the knee–for every knee must bow, and every tongue must confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father.
Come praise Him now with sincere heart. Yield homage to Him.
