0301. The Raising of Lazarus

0301. The Raising of Lazarus

The Raising of Lazarus

The miracles, as well as the parables, have wonderful spiritual lessons. In our treatment of "The Raising of Lazarus," we are letting physical death and resurrection type the spiritually dead and raised.

The sinner is dead in trespasses and sins, and when we are saved we are raised with Christ to walk in newness of life; therefore our lesson is Scripturally drawn, and true in its type.

1. There is the fact of death–and all are dead in sins.

2. There is the compassionate Christ, Who "commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

3. There is our part in leading our unsaved ones to Christ, expressed in "Roll ye away the stone."

4. There is the Divine power to save the greatest sinners, seen in "Lazarus, come forth."

5. There is the presence of the old nature, and the old life, expressed by the "grave clothes" that bound Lazarus.

6. There is the promise of victory over sin, in "Loose him."

7. There is the place of service, in "Let him go."
