0332. Peter's Sermon Upon the Occasion of the Healing of the Lame Man
Peter’s Sermon Upon the Occasion of the Healing of the Lame Man
This study is a natural sequence to the one which precedes it, wherein we discussed the healing of the lame man. The healing of the one who had been so long accustomed to sit at the Beautiful gate of the Temple, was so marked, and so clear a case of Divine power, that the people greatly marveled. Then they rushed to do obeisance to Peter and John. Immediately these men of God, who knew that the healing of the lame man was not due to any power or holiness that they themselves possessed, turned the attention of the multitude to Jesus Christ.
Peter became the spokesman and used the opportunity to preach Christ. His message forms the Scriptural basis for our study to-day.
Peter’s sermon is well worth the while. Would that every sermon proclaimed from the pulpit, was as full of Christ as was this one. Would that every sermon had as strong an appeal to the people to repent and to believe as did this one. Peter preached a full Gospel. He preached Christ crucified, Christ risen, and Christ coming again. In brief, Scriptural statements, he sent forth the very heart of the Gospel.
