0354. The Father Heart of God
The Father Heart of God
"The Lord did not set His love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: but because the Lord loved you" (Deu_7:7).
This passage has first reference to Israel. However we may use it, for when Israel was temporarily broken off, we were grafted in, and made to partake of the fatness of the olive tree. Then, in 1Pe_2:9 we are called "a special people," that is, "a people for His possession."
God loves His children, and He loves them with a special love. God loves the world–but for us, He has a distinct love. Christ said: "Father, I pray not for the world, but for them whom Thou hast given Me."
An old lady, when we were guest in her home, said as she proffered us a seat, "Will you not take this chair?" We replied, "My sister, is not this your chair?" With a query in her face, she said: "Certainly, they are all mine." Then we said, "But is not this one, especially yours?" "Yes," she replied, "you are right, it is the one where I always sit, my special chair."
Oh, yes, there is a sense in which God loves all men. But He loves us with an especial love. There is a sense in which all men are His, He created them all. But, there is a special sense in which we are His. We were created too, but we are also born. He is more than our "Creator" He is our "Father."
Let us come near then, and lean on Him. He loves us. He has us written on the palms of His hands. He knows us by name, and He leads us forth. He thinks upon us, provides for us, and watches over us in a special way.
