0368. Under the Law, Under the Curse

0368. Under the Law, Under the Curse

Under the Law, Under the Curse

"For as many as are of the works of the Law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the Book of the Law to do them" (Gal_3:10).

1. We feel extremely sorry for those who are trying to enter "Glory" through the keeping of the Law, because "The Law worketh wrath." When the Law of God was given to Moses in the mount, and when he, with his face shining, appeared unto the people of Israel at the mountain’s foot, it was a mount "that burned with fire." "And all the people saw the thunderings and the lightnings and the noise of the trumpet and the mountain smoking."

2. What folly to place oneself for refuge under a Law, which expresses the holiness and righteousness of God! What folly to pitch your tent ‘mid the blackness and the darkness and the tempest! What folly to seek shelter at the foot of a mountain, which, "If so much as a beast touched, it was stoned or shot through with a dart!"

3. It is true however that every legalist, and every "Be good and be saved" person, and every moralist, is dwelling under the thunders of the wrath of God.

There is but one covert from the storm, but one shelter from wind–Christ Jesus.

Illustration: In Texas, when a wife had, as a cyclone was coming, run to the storm pit; the husband stayed without and dared God to strike him. The storm broke, the wife was sheltered and secure. The husband was instantly killed. God help us not to get under the Law, and its curse. Let us fly to Christ to hide us.
