The Character of Saul–He Was of the Tribe of Benjamin

"Of the tribe of Benjamin" (Php_3:5).

It is natural for people to boast their blue blood. We love to talk of our ancestors, if our ancestors were worth the while. Paul had every reason for boasting, in this line. But, of what value was it to him? It is nothing to us individually, as far as salvation is concerned, whose son we are.

Many a sinner to-day has the blood of martyrs in his veins, many a sinner is a descendant of the Puritans; many a sinner has had the advantages of Godly homes, but all of these things they have spurned.

Saul was of the tribe of Benjamin, but he was fast on his road to hell. His blood was no security against the pit.
