The Character of Saul–He Was Zealous in His Religion

"Concerning zeal, persecuting the Church" (Php_3:6).

Saul was no drone. He was very active in his zeal for his faith. No one could have called him a nominal member of the synagogue. He was active to the limit. He was busy rounding up saints who professed the faith in Christ. He was zealous even beyond most of his day, persecuting the Church.

It is still true that many who are most active in the religious world are not even saved. There are plenty of people who are most faithful in church attendance, and who are most busy in church service, that have never been born again.

It is one thing to bake cakes and to sell ice-cream, and to do "church work;" it is another thing to be washed in the Blood of the Lamb.

Are not people who profess heathen cults very zealous for their faiths? Do they not often put many saints to shame by the exceeding fervor of their service? But zealous, energetic workers are often far from salvation.
