0471. O Lord, Save Me

0471. O Lord, Save Me

O Lord, Save Me

"O Lord my God, in Thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me" (Psa_7:1).

The Psalmist wrote these words, perhaps, when Shimei cursed him, or when Absalom and his armies sought to overwhelm him. David said, "O Lord my God, in Thee do I put my trust; save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me."

The picture of persecuted David anticipates persecuted Israel.

There is a time coming when Israel will lift up her face to the Lord, "from whence cometh her help."

When Peter saw the wind and the waves boisterous, he began to sink, then cried, "Lord, save me, I perish." So, when Israel feels that she is overwhelmed, nigh to sinking, she will cry, "O Lord, save me." The Lord will surely hear the cry of His people.

For a long time God’s children have been trodden down. They forsook the Lord Who redeemed them. They were a treacherous and a rebellious people. They even justified themselves in their transgressions.

For this cause did God scatter them. He gave them over to pestilence, to famine, and to the sword.

Psalms 7 anticipates the time when Israel, broken in spirit once more seeks her Lord. She cries unto God and He hears her cry.

God has never taken His all-seeing eye from Israel’s anguish. He watches her sorrows. He sits as a refiner of silver–only waiting the moment when He can safely rush in to the help of His chosen people.

By and by Jehovah will say, "It is enough." Then will He come down and save His elect and avenge them of all those who hated them.

O Lord, arise, and save Thine own,

O hear their cry, as, sinking down,

They lift their voice to Thee.

Come forth, and give them helping hand,

In grace restore them to their land,

That they may blessed be.
