0494. The Threefold Promise of Succor
The Threefold Promise of Succor
"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with Mine eye.
"Be ye not as the horse, or as the mole, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near onto thee" (Psa_32:8-9).
The Lord not only saves, but He takes the saved into His school, He seeks the development of His people. His passion is that they may grow up into Him, in all things. No little baby in any home was ever more carefully, faithfully and wisely instructed, or more tenderly counseled, than the least child that is born again, and becomes a member of the household of God. God’s helpfulness is manifested under three words.
1. "I will instruct thee." It is God’s will to reveal unto His saints His holiest purposes. "When the Spirit or Truth is come, He will teach us all things." God has prepared for those who love Him an eternal joy, which eye hath never seen, which ear hath never heard. It is the purpose of God, by the Holy Spirit, to reveal these things unto the children of God. It is His joy to instruct us concerning everything that appertains to Christian living.
He wants us to know His own name; He wants us to know. His will, His purpose, His plan for us. How shameful it is that the average man has his ear deaf to the instruction of the Lord. God wants to tell us His good things. He instructs us during the quiet of the night, during the hush of morning. He would whisper unto us the secrets concerning the riches of our inheritance; the glories that await us. May we ever listen to His voice.
2. "I will teach thee in the way which thou shalt go." Not only would Jehovah instruct us in His purposes and His plans for us; He would also teach us to walk in His way; He would go before us with a cloud by day and with a pillar of fire by night; He would show us where to pitch our tent, and He would show us when to move it.
"He leadeth me! oh! blessed tho’t,
Oh! words with Heav’nly comfort fraught;
Whate’er I do, where’er I be,
Still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me."
3. "I will guide thee with Mine eye." The word "guide," in the Hebrew, is "counsel." He will instruct us all concerning His will, He will teach us His way and He will counsel us with His wisdom. Our decisions should be made in Him. We need not blunder, for the Lord will counsel us. Why should we stumble by the way; being browbeaten and buffeted by the evil one? Blessed, indeed, is the one who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly. The meek will He guide in judgment.
And then, instructed of the Lord,
And taught the way to go;
The eye of God doth safely guide,
The ones who love Him so.
