0500. The Attitude of the Wicked Toward the Righteous
The Attitude of the Wicked Toward the Righteous
Psa_37:12, The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.
Psa_37:14, The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.
Psa_37:32, The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.
Jesus Christ once said, "If they have called the Master of the house, Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of His own household." He also said, "If they have hated Me, they will hate you." The prince of this world hath nothing in Christ. From the very beginning he sought to keep the seed of the woman from being born. When Christ was born, and proclaimed the Son of God, then satan set himself steadfastly to slay Him.
The attitude of the world toward Jesus Christ was just as cruel as that of the prince of the world.
"He was in the world, * * and the world knew Him not." He went into the city of Nazareth where He had been brought up, and they sought to cast Him from the brow of the hill on which the city was built.
There was no room for Jesus Christ in His Father’s house. Finally, there was no room for Him upon the earth, they cried, "Away with Him," and they "crucified Him."
The attitude both of the prince of the world and of the world, toward the children of God, has ever been the same as that manifested toward Jesus Christ, their Lord. Let any believer go all the way with God, and he will suffer persecution. The wicked will plot against him; they will gnash their teeth upon him; they will draw out the sword against him; they will watch to overwhelm him. There can be no more love in the heart of the wicked toward the children of God than there is toward God Himself. Those who are Christ’s, should gladly step outside the camp, bearing His reproach.
With gnashing of teeth and with plottings,
They watch for the just night and day;
With sword drawn, with bent bow and arrows,
They go forth the righteous to slay.
