0503. The End of the Righteous

0503. The End of the Righteous

The End of the Righteous

Psa_37:11, They shall have abundant peace.

Psa_37:19, They shall be satisfied.

Psa_37:28, They shall be preserved for ever.

Psa_37:37, Their end is peace.

Psa_37:40, They shall be helped, delivered and saved.

What should the righteous care, if for a little while, they suffer; they shall soon begin to sing. What if they, "now therefore have sorrow," the Lord shall see them again, and "they shall rejoice." Surely the sufferings of the present time are not comparable to the glory that shall be revealed. "Sorrow may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning. Let us be patient, it is only a little while and He that cometh will come and will not tarry. The Lord will uphold His people; the Lord will order the steps of a good man; the Lord will uphold him with His hand; the righteous will never be forsaken; he will never be condemned. The end of the perfect and upright man is peace.

It will be well to place emphasis in this chapter where God places it. Four different times, in the chapter, God promises that His children shall inherit the earth. Once, in Psa_37:18, He promises that the inheritance will be for ever.

Of course, the Spirit has in mind the millennial glory. Then the wicked shall have been overthrown. Then righteousness will girdle the globe as the waters that cover the sea. In those days there will be abundant peace; in those days the redeemed will be saved; in those days we shall be preserved forever. Blessed prospect! Wonderful anticipation! Let us live "soberly, righteously, and Godly, in this present world, looking for that blessed hope."

But soon will the righteous be favored,

Abundance of peace God will give;

Saved, satisfied, peaceful forever,

In joy and contentment they’ll live.
