0527. The King Longed For
The King Longed For
"I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto Thee, O Lord, will I sing" (Psa_101:1).
There may be some who would think it rather far-fetched for us to use these words in reference to the Second Coming of Christ, and yet, the very setting in which the words occur, make that very thing a necessity. Everywhere throughout the Psalms the story of Christ’s coming and His reign is magnified. The Psalms which immediately precede Psalms 101, particularly describe the millennial reign of our Lord.
Psalms 93, for instance, describes the majesty of Jehovah as He reigns.
Psalms 94 describes the restoration of Israel, and their deliverance from the wicked.
Psalms 95 is a Psalm of praise; it anticipates Christ as a King above all kings.
Psalms 96, Psalms 98 and Psalms 100 all present calls to sing a new song and to praise Him, Jehovah, because He cometh to judge the earth with righteousness and the people with truth.
Psalms 97 and Psalms 99 give us the new songs which will be sung when the Lord is great in Zion, reigning as King.
It is no wonder, therefore, that the Psalmist in Psa_101:2, cries: "O when wilt Thou come unto me?"
The Second Coming of Christ brings deliverance to the physical earth and therefore the earth groaneth and travaileth waiting for the coming of the Lord. The Second Coming of Christ brings deliverance to Israel, and therefore Israel is crying for the Lord to come.
There are four things which will be done, according to Psalms 101, when Christ appears.
1. "I will walk within my house with a perfect heart." Israel will be forgiven, the stony heart will be removed, she will possess a heart of flesh.
2. "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes." In those days Israel will depart no more from her Lord, she will cleave unto Him, even as Ruth clave to Naomi. She will remain faithful as long as the sun endureth.
3. "I will not know a wicked person." Israel will take the attitude of her Lord against all evil. Just now apostate Israel is preparing her heart to receive a wicked person. When the antichrist appears upon the scene, the Jews will make a league with him. However, Israel will learn to hate the antichrist, and when Christ comes again, she will remain true to Him during the thousand years.
The Psalmist having discussed what Israel will do, when the Lord returns, next discloses what the Lord Himself will do.
1. "Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land." Our Lord will have kind words for them who return to follow Him. They shall dwell with Him; they shall walk in the perfect way; they shall see His face and serve Him. Our Lord will lift up His eyes upon His people to bless them.
2. "I will early destroy all the wicked of the land." When our Lord comes, He will not only sustain the righteous, and reward them; but He will destroy and cut off the evildoers. The city of the Lord will be freed from those who work iniquity. Those who tell lies shall not tarry in His city, those who are deceitful shall not dwell within His house.
