The King’s Glory

"Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, Thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honour and majesty" (Psa_104:1).

Our Lord, when He descends from Heaven, will come in power and great glory. He will come walking on the wind’s. He will come sending forth His angels as spirits and His ministers as flaming fire.

The Psalm before us, in describing the glory of Jesus Christ, magnifies Him, first of all, as Creator. The Holy Spirit’s words suggest the five days in which our Lord created the earth and made all things therein.

The Lord Who comes the second time, is the same Lord, Who first created the Heavens and the earth; He is the One Who formed them and made them. Our Lord when He comes wears many diadems–one of these diadems will crown Him as inheritor of the earth and sea, and of all therein.

Let us briefly outline the praises that belong to Christ as the Creator, brought again into the inhabited earth. It will be seen how these praises cover the creative days of Genesis.

Day One: "Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever" (Psa_104:5).

Day two: "Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains" (Psa_104:6).

Day three: "The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Thy words" (Psa_104:13).

"He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth" (Psa_104:14).

Day four: "Thou makest darkness, and it is night: * * The sun ariseth" (Psa_104:20-22).

Day five: "So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts" (Psa_104:25).

"There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom Thou hast made to play therein" (Psa_104:26).

Compare now the glory of our Lord as Creator, with His glory in His Second Coming. The 1st chapter of Hebrews proclaims Jesus Christ as God’s Son, the appointed heir of all things. The same chapter, says: "And again, when He bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world (inhabited earth), He saith, "And let all the angels of God worship Him" (Heb_1:6). And then, immediately the Holy Spirit in Heb_1:7 quotes from our Psalms , 104, which says, "Who maketh His angels spirits, His ministers a flaming fire" (Psa_104:4 and Heb_1:7). Then Hebrews continues: "But unto the Son, He saith, Thy throne O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of Thy Kingdom." Then in Heb_1:10 we read: "And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Thine hands." "They shall perish; but Thou remainest."

Thus we see that the order of the 1st chapter of Hebrews positively gives Psalms 104 a Messianic and millennial aspect.

Jesus Who comes in His glory, is the same Christ Who made the Heavens and the earth. He Who made them, shall enter into His heritage, "For all things were made by Him, and for Him, and in Him they are all held together." In all of this we have seen how intimately our Lord’s "creation" is linked to our Lord’s reign.
