0542. The Loving Kindness of Jehovah
The Loving Kindness of Jehovah
"The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
"Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord" (Psa_107:42-43).
These verses are a summary of the whole chapter. They are climactic. They are focalesque. We see not yet the conditions described in these two verses. Iniquity has not stopped her mouth; her blasphemies ascend like the smoke and lava from an active volcano. The blatant wordings of the wicked fill the air. One can scarcely walk down the street of any of the world’s cities, without shuddering, because men on every hand are contemning the God of Heaven. But the day is coming when iniquity shall stop her mouth.
There is a time coming when Jesus Christ will be given a new name. When that name is sounded forth, every knee will bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of the Father. The wicked will cease to curse perforce, and all iniquity will stop her mouth.
There is a time coming when the righteous shall see and rejoice. When Joshua had successfully led the children of Israel into the land of Canaan, he reviewed the marvelous blessings that had marked their journey. Then he took in the rich blessings before him, and he sounded this excellent note, "There hath not failed one good thing of all the Lord hath spoken."
A like happy day awaits us. First, it will be retrospective. We will see how the Lord brought us out of a waste and howling wilderness; how He brought us to Himself; how He kept us as the apple of His eye; how He led us through a waste and howling wilderness, wherein were pits and wild beasts, and nations that knew not God. Then we will turn from the retrospective and the prospective will burst upon our eyes. The exceeding riches of the glory of God’s grace will lie before us. In that day as we remember the past, and as we get glimpses of what lies about us and before us, we will sing and rejoice. We will "observe these things, and understand the loving kindness of the Lord."
