0566. Israel's Help–preserved
Israel’s Help–preserved
"He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber"
"Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep" (Psa_121:3-4).
The story of Israel is a story of wanderings, but not a story of a people swallowed up and forgotten. Had it not been that God held His people as the "apple of His eye," Israel would long ago have been annihilated; but the Lord has been her Keeper. He has been a shade upon her right hand and upon her left. He has preserved her from evil. He has preserved her goings out and her comings in from the beginning, and will preserve her forevermore.
Her sorrows have been many, her sufferings have been sore, and yet her help has come from the Lord, "Who made the heavens and the earth."
No philosopher of to-day can explain the national preservation of the children of Israel. He must accept the statement, "The Lord shall preserve thee." The only thing that has kept Israel secure, has been a God Who is faithful. What Israel hath not obtained, the election hath obtained.
