0633. Christ in the Midst Serving
Christ in the Midst Serving
"I am in the midst of you as one that serveth" (Luk_22:27).
Christ was pre-eminently a man among men. He walked in the midst of the people. He pretended no superior being. A little poem may be read to show this–as follows:
"The parish priest of austerity,
Climbed up in the high church steeple,
To be nearer God, so that he might
Drop down God’s Word on the people.
And, in sermon script, he daily wrote
What he thought came down from Heaven,
And he let it fall on his people’s heads
Two times, one day in seven.
In his old age he had to die,
And he cried out from the steeple:
‘Where art Thou, Lord?’ and the Lord replied
‘I’m down among the people.’"
We, too, should be in the midst of the people if we would truly serve them. "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; Who went about doing good" (Act_10:38). Our blessed Lord served the people. He sat with them as they ate and talked to them of the Father’s house and the returning prodigal. He healed the sick, and raised the dead; He gave deliverance to those who were bound of satan. Read Luk_4:18 and then emphasize the need of our having the mind of Christ. Act_1:1, speaks of "all the things that Jesus began both to do and to teach." Believers should keep the work He began, still going on.
