0649. The Divine Intensity
The Divine Intensity
The intensity of Christ is shown by the repetition of words. For instance, in the first division "INTENSE IN HIS COMPASSION," the passage reads: "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me?" The repetition of the word "Saul" marks the intensity. This repetition occurs in each of the seven divisions. It is "Jerusalem! Jerusalem!" It is "Simon! Simon!" or it is "Abraham! Abraham!" etc. If you were casually calling a friend you would doubtless mention the name but once; however if your friend was in great danger you would, invariably, repeat the name.
Many people know nothing of the passion and compassion which consumed the Master. This means that they possess a form of religion, denying the power thereof. The elder son said, "Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment." But this elder son knew nothing of the intensity of the father, whose heart had been yearning for the return of his prodigal son.
It is not enough to possess the presence of Christ; it is not enough to preach the person of Christ–we need also His compassion.
