Christ Interpreting the Father

All men have a sense of the fact of God. The heathen acknowledge God in one form or another. The American Indians acknowledged God. It is only the fool who has said in his heart, "There is no God."

When Paul went into Athens, he found the Ephesians worshiping the unknown God, he said unto them, "Whom ye ignorantly worship, Him, preach I unto you." The sense of God is inwrought in the heart of man.

The very heavens declare the glory of God. The smallest of nature’s glories speak forth the fact of God. Back of the order and the symmetry of nature, lies God.

Things cannot happen. Theories cannot solve the mystery of the material universe, nor the presence of men upon the universe.

Man has but a very crude knowledge of God. Man, unaided and untaught by the Spirit of God, maligns the true character of God. The heathen think of God as unrelenting in His wrath, a despot, a tyrant, lording it over all.

The people in so-called Christian lands malign God. They frequently speak of Him as a God of love, but without justice; as One who knows nothing of judgment against sin. The "no hell" crowd is an ever growing company.

The full character of God can nowhere be seen, excepting as it is set forth in the Word of God, and interpreted in the life of Jesus Christ. God was in Christ when Christ was in the world. Every act of Jesus, every work of Jesus, every will of Jesus, told forth the Father.

Christ, by highest Heaven adored,

Christ, the everlasting Lord,

Late in time behold Him come,

Offspring of a virgin’s womb;

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see;

Hail th’ Incarnate Deity,

Pleased as Man with men to dwell,

Jesus our Immanuel!

Hark! the herald angels sing

"Glory to the new-born King."
