0673. The Number of the Angels of God

0673. The Number of the Angels of God

The Number of the Angels of God

"But ye are come unto Mount Zion, and unto the city of the Living God, the Heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels" (Heb_12:22).

The words translated "innumerable company" is "muriasin" and may be translated "myriads."

In Rev_5:11, we read of "many angels round about the throne." Psa_68:17 speaks of the chariots of God as being "twenty thousand, even thousands of thousands."

Our Lord when led captive from Gethsemane, said "Thinkest thou I cannot now pray unto My Father, and He shall place before Me more than twelve legions of angels?"

No one need to doubt that there are untold numbers of angels, subject to God, and working out His will. These angels were created far back, in the ages past, before the earth itself was created. When God spoke to Job, He said: "Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? * * When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?" (Job_38:5-7). The "sons of God" in this passage doubtless refer to angelic beings.
