0686. Two Angels Announce the Lord's Second Coming
Two Angels Announce the Lord’s Second Coming
"And while they looked steadfastly toward Heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which also said * * This same Jesus * * shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into Heaven" (Act_1:10-11).
The angels believed the Prophets and prophesied of the return of the Lord.
The Lord was leaving the earth scenes; He was going up in a cloud. The upturned faces of the disciples showed to their ascending Lord, the love and adoration, mingled with fear, that they felt as He was passing out of sight. Thus, the two shining ones hastened, upon the command of their Lord, to assure the hearts of the disciples; with the hope of the Lord’s personal, corporeal and visible return.
Then the Lord went on, up and up, ascending to the right hand of the Father. And, as He went, angelic hosts, gathered round. Perhaps as they neared the portals of the highest Heavens, they voiced their praise in the words of the Psalmist, "Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up ye entrances of eternity; and the King of Glory shall come in." Then a group of angels around the throne of God, may have echoed back, "Who is this King of Glory?"
And the answer is given–"The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle."
Once more the multitudes of the ascending hosts make acclaim:
"Lift up your heads, O ye gates;
And be ye lifted up ye entrances of eternity;
And the King of Glory shall come in."
And, then, together, the angels fill the Heavens with the words:
"Who is the King of Glory?
The Lord of Hosts, He is the King of Glory."
