Sowing to the Spirit

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit, shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting" (Gal_6:7-8).

Believers are to be judged according to their works.

Read 2Co_5:10 : "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad."

God has a day of reckoning.

Read 1Co_3:11-15 : "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire." Those who build wood, hay and stubble, are those who are sowing to the flesh. Certainly they reap corruption–their works shall be burned–they suffer loss. Those who build gold, silver, precious stones, are those who sow to the Spirit. They will reap in the Spirit. They receive a reward. Their work abides.

How important it is, then, that believers should walk in the Spirit, live in the Spirit, and sow to the Spirit. Christ said, "Behold, I come quickly, and My reward is with Me to give to every man as his work shall be." Certainly God is not unfaithful to forget our labor of love.

We are admonished in the Scriptures to lift up our eyes and look upon the whitened fields, and we are sure that he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal.

What an inspiration have young men and women to live in the Spirit and to sow to the Spirit! We should not think that the gracious rewards, which God sets before us, present an unholy motive for service. Christ, Himself, for the joy that was set before Him, "endured the Cross despising the shame," and, should not we fix our eyes on the joy which He has set before us?

Read 1Co_9:24-27. The Apostle Paul urges upon the Corinthian saints, the keeping under the body, and the faithful running of the race, in anticipation of the incorruptible crown.
