The Most Hated Word

"Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust."

"For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed Me: for he wrote of Me."

"But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe My words?" (Joh_5:45-47).

There is no book in the wide world that is hated as the Bible is hated.

There are lots of people who love to have a Bible on their parlor table, who will not keep it in their heart.

The Bible testifies to the world that its works are evil; and therefore it is hated of men.

The Bible declares that the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; therefore it is hated of men.

The Bible describes man’s day, the present age, as rushing onward toward an overwhelming judgment; therefore it is hated of men.

The Bible stands over its critics and pronounces that the Bible itself is the critic of all hearts; therefore it is hated of men.

The Bible designs to say unto men "thou shalt," and "thou shalt not;" therefore it is hated of men.

The Bible is no respecter of persons; it recognizes no castes and permits no distinctions; therefore it is hated of men.

The Bible has no flattery for falsehood; it faithfully uncovers every evil act; therefore the Bible is hated of men.

Oh, wonderful, wonderful Word of the Lord,

So hated of men and despised;

‘Tis because it reveals the wages of sin,

Condemns what the sinful have prized.
