Satan’s Fourth Strategy–Seen in the Parable of the Leaven
"Leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened" (Mat_13:32).
The fourth parable is that of the leaven. The mustard tree sets forth the popularizing of the church, but the leaven describes the church filled with false doctrine.
It was of the leaven that Jesus Christ said "Beware!" When satan sought to hinder the sowing of the true seed, he did well. When he preached a false gospel, he did better. When he popularized the church by filling it with his own followers, he made a good advance; but when he filled the church with false doctrines, he made his master stroke.
An enemy within the city gates is far more dangerous than the same enemy without the walls.
Three hundred years ago, satan was just as active in preaching infidelity, skepticism and higher criticism as he is today, but he was preaching it outside the church. Today the devil has entered the very pulpits themselves and is proclaiming a message that is absolutely false to every fundamental of the faith.
Even as we pen these words, we feel it almost a tragedy that such things must be said. Yet, facts are facts. And today the whole church is leavened by the false teachings of men, energized by the devil.
