Satan’s Fourfold Success–A Departure From the Faith

"In the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils" (1Ti_4:1).

The church has left the moorings of the old-time faith, once for all delivered. Jesus Christ very plainly said, "Upon this rock will I build My Church." The rock was Peter’s positive avowal of his Lord’s Deity. In that Deity was included every other vital message of the faith, and every claim that the Divine Lord ever made.

When the church, therefore, leaves the solid rock of the faith in Christ, and begins to build upon the shifting sands of men’s cunning denials, it cannot expect anything else than to be overthrown.

The church has so swerved from the faith that the colleges have almost succumbed. A college can scarcely be found today where evolution, in some form or other, is not preached; where some subtle denial of vital truth is not promulgated.

Students are returning from these colleges with their faith broken. They are wandering in a labyrinth of doubt. They have no certain and all-satisfying trust.

The pulpits, both at home and abroad, are, for the most part, supplied by the graduates of our colleges and seminaries.

As a result, in China it has been found necessary to organize the missionaries who still stand for the faith, into a union for the defense of the Gospel.

Surely, the conditions which the Holy Spirit spoke by Paul in II Timothy are true today.
