0820. Obedience and the Daily Walk
Obedience and the Daily Walk
"And He that sent Me is with Me: the Father hath not left Me alone; for I do always those things that please Him" (Joh_8:29).
Obedience is not a beautiful doctrine that should be put into a frame and hung upon the wall.
Obedience is a word that should be translated into our daily walk. We should do His will. "If ye hear these things, happy are ye if ye do them."
What advantage is a sermon that is not lived out day by day? A truth may be ever so sublime, but it is the truth expressed and not the truth possessed, that glorifies God.
What advantage is the mountain scene, even though that scene holds a transfigured Christ, unless it is made potent in the healing of the stricken son, at the foot of the mount?
Whenever a child of God disobeys God in His daily walk, he scatters wreckage all around him.
Jonah ran away from God and he brought disaster on the whole ship and crew with whom he rode. Besides this, there were other boats which must have suffered from Jonah's storm.
How few there are who like Caleb, follow the Lord fully!
Of Solomon it was written, "And his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God" (1Ki_11:4).
Of Amaziah it was written, Amaziah "did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart" (2Ch_25:2).
The saddest part, in all this is that when those who are called of God to represent Him in their daily lives fail, the name of God is always blasphemed thereby.
How we need to guard our walk. The Scripture well says: "Let your heart therefore be perfect with the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes, and to keep His commandments" (1Ki_8:61).
