Obedience and Its Rewards

"Then answered Peter and said unto Him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed Thee; what shall we have therefore?

"And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the tribes of Israel" (Mat_19:27-28).

Peter said, "We have forsaken all, and followed Thee." Christ said, "Ye shall sit on twelve thrones." Blessed is the fruitage of obedience.

Can we look our Lord full in the face and say:

"Jesus I my cross have taken,

All to leave and follow Thee"?

Then our Lord will answer us and say:

"A beautiful crown in Heaven to wear,

For those who here the cross will bear."

Abraham obeyed and went out, not knowing whither he went. Abraham, obedient to the Divine command offered up Isaac, the son of his love. Therefore God said: "In blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying, I will multiply thee."

Moses, when he had come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; he forsook Egypt; he disdained its riches and its pleasures. God honored Moses. He met him at the Mount of Transfiguration; He enrolled his name among the heroes of the faith, and He promised, him a rich reward in the ages to come.

The names of the twelve men who followed the Lord during His earth life are to be emblazoned on the twelve foundations of the wall of the city, the New Jerusalem, that will come down from God out of Heaven.

Surely obedience will be well repaid. God will not forget. He watches diligently for those who are willing to fight a good fight, and keep the faith and finish their course; and, He lays by Him "crowns of righteousness" which He, as a righteous judge, will give in that day.

God says: "Because thou hast kept the word of My patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of trial * * hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown" (Rev_3:10-11).
