The Faith That Commits

"For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day" (2Ti_1:12).

It is useless to worry; yea, it is sinful to worry. Worry is a child of doubt, born of despair.

True faith believes that God is able to keep anything committed to Him.

True faith remembers that God is possessed with all authority and power. It remembers that He Who created all things and Who holds all things in the hand of His power is able to keep that which we may commit to His care. It remembers that the One Who met satan and vanquished him is able to guard what we commit.

1. Let us then, in faith commit our souls to Him as unto a faithful Creator (see 1Pe_4:19). Jesus Christ is able to keep our souls unto that day, and He is able to present us before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.

"The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,

He will not, He will not, desert to its foes;

That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,

He'll never, no never, no never forsake."

2. Let us then, in faith, commit our "way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass" (Psa_37:5).

Why should we fret because of evildoers and be envious against workers of iniquity, for they shall soon be cut down like the grass. But, "the righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein forever." Then let us live without fear. Let us trust in the Lord; let us rest in the Lord; let us wait patiently for Him, and let us commit our way unto Him.

3. Let us then, in faith, commit our works unto the Lord (see Pro_16:3). It is not pleasing unto God for us to be troubled as to our works. Are we not workers together with Him? He assigns us our task and He gives us the power to fulfil it. All He requires at our hands is that we be faithful. The matter of our "success" or our "failure" need not concern us. We only need to obey His voice and do His will and leave the result with Him.

Paul sought to keep the faith, to fight a good fight and finish his course; the results were committed unto the Lord, and Paul knew that Christ would take care of the rewards.

"I know not why God's wondrous grace

To me He hath made known,

Nor why–unworthy–Christ in love

Redeemed me for His own.

"But 'I know Whom I have believed,

And am persuaded that He is able

To keep that which I've committed

Unto Him against that day.'"
