0956. Christ's Resurrection
Christ's Resurrection
There are four distinct announcements recorded in the New Testament, which were made by Heavenly beings.
The announcement of His Birth. "Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord" (Luk_2:11).
The announcement of His Death. They talked of His decease which He should accomplish at Jerusalem (see Luk_9:31).
The announcement of His Resurrection. "He is not here, but is risen" (Luk_24:6).
The announcement of His Second Coming. "This same Jesus, * * shall so come in like manner" (Act_1:11).
The first announcement was made by an angel and acclaimed by a multitude of the Heavenly host.
The three other announcements were made by "two shining ones."
It might not be proper to state that the four announcements present truth in an ascending scale. Each is so interrelated and interdependent upon the others, and each is so vital to truth itself, that it is impossible to estimate values.
The first announcement was concerning that great mystery, "God made manifest in the flesh." This was a long-waited event. It had been prophesied in Eden, and was fulfilled after four millenniums had passed.
The second announcement was concerning His death. This also was the fulfillment of prophecy. Christ's death had been determined from before the foundation of the world, and was foretold from the time that sin entered the garden.
The third announcement seems climactic. It is the seal and glory of the other two. Paul said, "It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again" (Rom_8:34).
The fourth announcement is spoken of as "that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour, Jesus Christ."
