An Inspiration

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord" (1Co_15:58

In view of all that has gone before, the Illustration, the Individuality, the Improvement, the Image, the Implication, and the Inquiry concerning the resurrection, we can now say we have found an inspiration such as the world can never know. This inspiration is expressed in three words.

1. "Wherefore be ye stedfast." There are many calls for us to turn back from the faith. The world, the flesh and the devil throw out enchantments. They prepare snares and they seek subtlety to turn us from our steadfastness to the Lord. The Holy Spirit knew of all this and He put before us this gracious testimony concerning the resurrection, as a plea for steadfastness.

2. "Be unmoveable." There are many purposes which God has laid upon us, purposes of consecration and of fidelity to the Lord. In all of these the resurrection pleads with us to remain unmoved. We should be built upon an impregnable rock.

When Washington crossed the Delaware, he burned the bridges behind him. Shall we not do the same? How often do we hear admonitions from the Spirit similar to the words "be unmoveable"?

There comes the call, "Hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown." There comes again another call, "Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life." In view of the resurrection let us remain "stedfast, unmoveable."

3. Be abounding in the work of the Lord. There is a special reason given us for, this abounding in service. It is this: "Inasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord." Our labor is not in vain because the Lord is not unmindful to forget our labor of love. When He comes again He will bring His reward with Him.

Blessed are they who work for Christ aboundingly. Their works will follow after them.
