The Deliverance of Lot

"The same day that Lot went out of Sodom" (Luk_17:29)

The warnings that came to Lot and the urgency of the Heavenly visitors, with the leaving behind of the two daughters and the turning back of Lot's wife, all seem to have a wonderful parellelism–a message of tremendous importance to those who live today.

Noah, as we have seen, passed through the storm; Lot was taken out altogether. The angels hastened Lot, and one of them said: "I cannot do anything till thou be come thither" (Gen_19:22).

Hallelujah! God hath not appointed us unto wrath.

Bless God! we shall be "caught up" before the fire falls.

We will "rest with Him," when the Lord is revealed from Heaven and is taking vengeance upon those who know not God.

We will be raptured before the day of wrath, as Enoch was raptured before the flood.

"I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.

"Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

"Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left" (Luk_17:34-36).

But what else have we before us? Let us look at Lot's sons-in-law and his daughters. Lot pled with them. But he seemed as one who mocked unto his sons-in-law. Will it not be so again? How many there are, married into the families of saints, who know not the Lord. They may possess a form of Godliness, but they know nothing of the power thereof. Such will all be left behind.

What else have we? Lot's wife. She turned back. She heard the call, and she believed the word enough to start to flee. But Lot's wife turned back. She was Lot's wife, but she shared neither his faith nor his willingness to flee. She, like Demas, loved this present world. She was left behind, a pillar of salt–an enduring monument of warning to all those who have no more than formal piety and a half-hearted trust. Those who abide not in Him, will draw back from Him at His coming.

Lot was not all that he should have been, but Lot, at least, was God's very own.

Let us read what God record's of Lot:

"And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked; "For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds" (2Pe_2:7-8).

Thus God delivered Lot, and He knows how to deliver all the Godly out of the hour of temptation. Surely the Judge of all the earth will do right. He will not destroy the righteous with the wicked. He will not do anything until the saved are taken away. Thank God, the saints will be taken up and out, ere yet the wrath of the Lord shall overwhelm the earth.
