1005. What Jeremiah Says of Christ As King
What Jeremiah Says of Christ As King
"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
"In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is His name whereby He shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS" (Jer_23:5-6).
We will use only two verses from Jeremiah, although there are many Scriptures in the messages from this God-moved writer's pen which establish the Kingship of Christ–a literal and an earthly Kingship over a literal and earthly people.
1. Chapter Jer_23:5,Jer_23:6. See the key verses.
Note in these verses that it is a capital "B," Branch. This Branch is Jesus Christ, and He is a King. His reign is over the whole of Israel, Judah and Israel, or the two and the ten tribes.
2. In chapter Jer_33:14-15, we have the second picture. "Behold, the days come (and remember this prophecy is still future), saith the Lord, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah. In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of Righteousness to grow up unto David; and He shall execute judgment in the land." Then comes the name whereby the city shall be called, Jerusalem shall dwell safely; and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The Lord our Righteousness. For thus saith the Lord, David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel."
Remember, as we pass, that the city takes its name from its King. Remember that the throne is David's throne and the seat of that throne is Jerusalem; for Jer_3:17 says, "At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord." Remember also that God hath promised, and when He hath stretched forth His hand who shall draw it back? When He hath spoken who shall disannul it? Preachers may say that Jesus will never restore the twelve tribes and sit on David's throne in Jerusalem, but they make God a liar when they say it.
