1017. Israel Inheriting Jerusalem
Israel Inheriting Jerusalem
"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that the city shall be built to the Lord" (Jer_31:38)
Some may scoff, some may say God hath forgotten Israel, but listen to the words which precede our key verse: "Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, * * if these ordinances depart from before Me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before Me for ever." As long then as the sun, moon and the stars shine and keep their course, Israel must endure, and God's promise that "the days come that the city shall be built to the Lord," must be fulfilled.
Let us read another Scripture: So shall ye know that I am the Lord your God dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy."
The Spirit through Zechariah portrays more fully the future glory of Jerusalem. "Jerusalem shall be inhabited as towns without walls for the multitude of men and cattle therein; for I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the Glory in the midst of her * * and the Lord shall choose Jerusalem again."
No wonder the Psalmist cried out, "Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of His holiness.
Beautiful for situation,
The joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion, * *
The city of the great King."
Early in the history of man, Cain's son, Enoch, builded a city. Later on Nineveh and Babylon and other great cities were built. These cities all fell under the curse, because of their sins. Jerusalem however, shall be builded in the days of Christ's glory, and it shall be the city of God. It will be the joy of all the earth.
When Christ reigns in Jerusalem, then shall the nations of the earth send up, year after year, their representatives to Jerusalem to worship Israel's King and to behold Israel's glory. At that time and in that day will be fulfilled in completion, the beauteous word's of Psalms 122 :
"I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the House of the Lord.
"Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
"Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:
"Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the Lord.
"For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.
"Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
"Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.
"For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee."
"Because of the House of the Lord our God I will seek thy good."
