Postmillennialism Annuls the Hope of Israel

"For the Lord of Hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?" (Isa_14:27)

The postmillennialist would rob Israel of her place in the promises of God. This may not matter so much to him, but it matters much to the One Who holds Israel as the apple of His eye; it also matters much to the nation to whom the promises were given.

The miracle of all miracles is this–that God has kept the Jews as a distinct and separate people. All other peoples, driven from their homes and their country; all other peoples robbed of their government, and of everything that could hold them together nationally, have always lost their identity, and have been amalgamated by the nations.

This people, although scattered among the nations as corn is sifted from a sieve, have never lost their identity. Like Moses' bush they have been burned, but never consumed; like Jonah in the whale's belly, they have been swallowed, but never digested.

Do you ask, "Hath God cast off His people?" "God forbid." Israel is broken off, but not cast off and Israel shall be grafted in again.

The premillennialist prays for the peace of Jerusalem remembering, "they shall prosper that love thee!" If the "post" steals from Israel all of her blessings and passes over to her all of her curses; he makes her poor indeed. Her curses are literal, we grant it; but her blessings are literal also.

When the "post" accepts literally the curses which fell upon Israel, and then transfers her blessings to the Church, he juggles with the Word of God.

The Old Testament and portions of the New, contain exceedingly great and precious "promises to Judah and to Israel. The "pre" accepts them as they are written. The "pre" believes that the whole land promised unto Abraham, will be restored unto Israel; that the twelve tribes will again dwell in the land, and that one King shall be king over them all. He believes that God will bring again the captivity of His people Israel; that she shall build her waste cities and inhabit them; that she shall be planted in her own land and no more be pulled up out of her land.
