1036. After Resurrection, What?
After Resurrection, What?
"And they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years" (Rev_20:4)
We have spoken about the body and the literalness of things beyond. Let us now think of other blessed truths.
1. We shall be forever with the Lord. 1Th_4:17 : "Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
If there was not one other thing said in the Bible about the eternal ages, this would be enough. To think of being forever with Him! We have friends on earth whom we meet and whom we love, but it is only for a little while. Soon distinctive interests sever us. Even our homes are broken up. But, when we pass into the great beyond, we are forever with the Lord. No more shall there be any separation.
2. We will behold His glory. Joh_17:24 : "Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am; that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given Me: for Thou lovedst Me before the foundation of the world."
Christ prayed that we might behold His glory, and behold His glory we will. How illuminating it is to travel all over this earth, to go by steamer or by swift flying train from shore to shore and from city to city, beholding the wonders of nature and the marvels of man. But how much more glorious will it be, as, without steamer or train, we shall pass from scene to scene, beholding His glory!
"Millions of years our wondering eyes
Will o'er His beauties pore."
3. We shall serve Him. Rev_22:3 : "And His servants shall serve Him."
To be with the Lord is blessed; to behold His glory is wonderful; and yet, who would want to be there with nothing to do? We yearn down here to do something in His behalf Who had done so much for us; how much more over there? There is nothing more beautiful to us than to think that we shall see Him, and we shall serve Him. We cannot tell what that service shall be, but we know that He will find a task which we may perform in His behalf, in which we shall never be weary.
4. We shall reign with Him. 2Ti_2:12 : "If we suffer, we shall also reign with Him: if we deny Him, He also will deny us."
How marvelous! It seems that we are climbing an ascending ladder. Not only are we to be with Him, and to behold His glory, and serve Him; but we are to jointly reign with Him, Who is yet to be King of kings, and Lord of lords! We who have followed Him down here, shall reign with Him during the thousand years, when He takes David's throne; and then, after the thousand years, in the eternal ages we still shall jointly reign. The kingdoms of the world will have become the Kingdoms of our God. Christ Jesus will have handed the Kingdom over to the Father, that God may be all in all; and then in that blessed realm, where there is no more sin, no more of darkness, we shall reign as heirs of God and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ, forever!
