The Paralytic or Grace Through Faith

A Unique Preaching Service (Mar_2:1-2).

An Interrupted Service (Mar_2:3-4).

Studying the Paralytic (Mar_2:3).

The Responsive Christ (Mar_2:5).

The Critical Scribes (Mar_2:6-7).

Christ to His Critics (Mar_2:8-11).

The Paralytic Healed (Mar_2:12).

The miracles and parables of Christ form a conspicuous part of all the four Gospels.

The miracles sum up for us "Christ and His work." The parables sum up for us "Christ and His Word."

There is a close relation between these inasmuch as the work and the Word of Christ are one.

The miracle of the paralytic and his healing sets forth one of the chief claims of the Words of Christ: His "power on earth to forgive sins."

The miracle establishes two plainly stated facts:

1. Christ's Deity and power to forgive is assured by His miracles.

2. With Christ the forgiveness of sins is as easy as the healing of the sick.

A third truth may be outlined:

3. Sin and sickness have a very vital connection, and He Who is Lord in one realm, is Lord in the other.

The paralytic magnifies Christ, in that one so helpless and so dependent is made the recipient of grace. In all of this Christ is graciously magnified.

The service of the four men in connection with this healing should be given emphasis. God calls saints into a vital co-partnership in real soul-saving service.
