Studying the Paralytic

"And they come onto Him, bringing one sick of the palsy" (Mar_2:3).

There are certain things true in the case of this paralytic, that are true with every sinner.

1. The paralytic was hopelessly sick. There were none who could heal him. Visitors might condone him in his sad estate, but they could not cure him. He was past human aid.

The sinner, too, is dead in trespasses and in sins. He is hopelessly lost. Men may try to make him comfortable in his sins; they may seek to improve his environment, they may try to entertain and to help him to forget his lost estate, but he is lost, always lost, irrecoverably lost.

2. The paralytic was willing to go to Christ. He needed help to get there, but he was glad to be helped. He lay upon his bed as he was borne of four. He heard their words of cheer. He learned from them, more and more of the healing power, of the wonder-working Christ, as he was being carried along the way.

Herein is the opportunity of true believers in the Lord. There are those who cannot of themselves get courage to go to Christ. They must be sought out and helped. They are not rejecters; they want to come, but they have scarcely known enough of the One Who saves, to know how to get to God.

Let those who know the Lord remember what they can do. They can magnify the glories of Christ and point the way to Christ; until they create within the heart of the sinner a longing for the Lord.

3. The paralytic was laid at the feet of Jesus. That is just the place for any poor sin-sick soul. Did not Christ say "Come unto Me"? And who should come more gladly than such an one as this? Are not the weary and the heavy laden told to come? Are not the thirsty told to come? Are not the "whosoever wills" told to come?

If there is a lost one reading these words, let him come. If there is a saved one reading these words, let him know the place to lead his sinner friend.
