The Sun and Stars Hidden

"And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away" (Act_27:20).

We have now before us the conditions which accompanied the great storm. There are two things set forth:

1. The sun and stars were hidden. It is not difficult at all to discern a wonderful lesson just here. Every one of you know whom the sun typifies. Does not the Bible say that Jesus Christ is the Sun of Righteousness? Is not our God a sun and a shield? Did not Christ say, "I am the Light of the world"? As such, He is the Sun Who shines spirituously.

The stars shine at night, after the sun has gone down. Does not the Bible say that saints are stars, luminaries, shining at night? Then, the storm hides the face of both Christ and true sainthood. A false christ may be kept in view and an emasculated sainthood; but the genuine saint and Saviour is lost to view. Higher criticism knows nothing of either one. The winds of a liberal modernism have covered both sun and stars.

2. All hope of salvation was taken away. These word's almost startle us, and yet they stand forth with a clearness of vision that can not be denied. When Christ is hidden to sight and sainthood is lost to view, all hope of real salvation is past. There is no salvation apart from the Lord Jesus Christ and His Cross.

The higher critic, the liberalist, the modernist has taken away the Cross. They have robbed us of every vestige of saving grace. They have turned us over to a well-planned system of social service which recognizes no repentance, demands no Blood, and needs no saving grace.

Under the ministry of these men who deny God and His Christ, there is no such thing as the "Old Time Revival." The salvation of sinners and the joy of new born souls, is never heard among them.

The wind and storm of criticism has left us in the dark, madly driven upon storm-tossed waves. They have robbed us of our hope; taken away our joy; left us with no more than a form of Godliness, denying the power thereof.

"They say my Saviour could not be

The Son of God, My Lord Divine,

That He was but a man like me.

With a passion in His heart like mine;

But I know He has redeemed me,

From my sin He set me free;

Yes, I know He has redeemed me,

For He died on Calvary."
