An Old Testament Story of Redemption

The Old Testament most beautifully portrays the whole story of redemption. Some imagine that the Old Testament knows nothing of grace, that it is wholly given to the discussion of Law and Law works. This is wrong. Redemptive grace preceded the giving of the Law, and was potent during the whole Law period.

Abraham was not justified by the works of the Law, but by faith.

Israel was not redeemed from bondage through the Law but through grace.

Of Abraham we read, "If Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the Scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness" (Rom_4:2-3).

"David also described the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin."

This righteousness is not of the Law, it is not of works, but it is of grate. If of works it would not be of grace; otherwise grace is no more grace. But if of grace then it is no more works otherwise work is no more work.

From Abel down, the story of redeeming grace, through the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, is clearly set forth in the Word of God.

Today we bring an illustrative story of redemption, based upon a most remarkable and precious passage of Scripture. Any one and every one will see readily that the application we bring is just what our Lord meant to be brought from His words.
