1241. No Man Ever Lived As Christ Lived
No Man Ever Lived As Christ Lived
"Which of you convinceth Me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe Me?" (Joh_8:46).
There are three words which we will consider, setting forth the uniqueness of the life of Christ. These words pronounce Him, in His life, as distinct from all other men.
1. Jesus Christ lived a holy life as none other ever lived. There are certain statements concerning the life of Christ, that can be said of none other: "Who did no sin;" "Who knew no sin," and, "In Him was no sin."
On one occasion our Lord said: "Which of you convinceth Me of sin?"
In olden times the men of this earth sought to find fault with Daniel. They searched through his records as a statesman, they searched through the records of his daily walk, at home and on the streets, and they found no fault in him. Daniel, however, recognized his own sin, for when he prayed, he said:
"We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments:
"Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land" (Dan_9:5-6).
Jesus Christ was hounded by the enemy, but they never found any sin in Him. They even sought false witnesses against Him to put Him to death; but they found none though many false witnesses came. Over the head of every man it is written, "All have sinned;" over the head of Jesus Christ is written, "Without spot or blemish."
2. Jesus Christ lived a humble life as none other ever lived. He made Himself of no reputation, He never received honor of man. He thought it not a thing to be grasped at, to be equal with God; and yet "being found in fashion as a man He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross." He was born, and laid in a manger; He was reared in the insignificant village of Nazareth; He was a carpenter, and the recognized son of a carpenter; He gathered around Him a humble group of fishermen, as His followers; He walked among men as a man; He put on no superior air, and sought no worldly preferment–He humbled Himself as no other man ever humbled himself.
3. Jesus Christ lived a happy life as none other ever lived. Christ was prophesied as "a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief," and yet Christ could say, "My joy I give unto you."
Christ was hounded of satan, hated of scribe, forsaken of publican, and yet He could say, "My peace I give unto you."
The Lord Jesus was anointed with the oil of gladness above His fellows. In the upper room, in the hour of deepening sorrows, as He approached His Cross, He uttered a prayer in which He only once referred to His coming death. The consuming vision which thrilled Him, as He passed out into Gethsemane, was the glory of the Father, the glory the Father had given unto Him, and the glory He was to share with those who trust Him. No wonder, therefore, that we read: "And when they had sung an hymn they went out."
