1243. No Man Ever Wrought As Christ Wrought

No Man Ever Wrought As Christ Wrought

"If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: bat now have they both seen and hated both Me and My Father" (Joh_15:24).

Other men have done mighty works, but none of them have ever done the works which He did.

1. He wrought where no other man ever wrought. The Lord Jesus harnessed the winds, quieted the waves, stilled the tempests. Behold the Master! Awakened by a trembling, excited group of fishermen with their boat about to sink; He quietly arose and rebuked the waves. "Peace, be still," said He, and before the Lord of the elements, the winds and waves were quelled. He Who had flung worlds into space, and then held them in His hand, as they swung through space; He Who, on earth was God, the same as He was in Heaven, surely He could work where no man ever wrought.

He healed the sick, the lame, the halt, and the blind; He healed the leper, raised the dead. To be sure, prophets and apostles wrought miracles, but they wrought them in the name of this mighty Christ. When Jesus Christ stood at the grave of Lazarus and said, "Lazarus, come forth!" He wrought in a power of His own. When Lazarus, who had been dead four days, came forth bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and Christ cried "Loose him, and let him go!" Christ spoke as the resurrection and the life. No man ever wrought as He wrought.

He cast out demons, He vanquished satan, which no other man could do. Even Michael, the archangel, durst not bring against the devil a railing accusation, but he said: "The Lord rebuke thee." Before Jesus Christ, the demons who had possessed the man of Gadara, fled; before Jesus Christ, the devil, in the wilderness temptation, was defeated. Even on the Cross, Christ despoiled principalities and powers, triumphing over them in it.

2. He wrought with an ease with which no man ever wrought. Christ never wrought with any sign of fear, or hurry, or flurry; He met every task with a supreme poise of bearing, that proved Him none other than the Son of God. He did not waver nor worry over His work.

He stood before the grave of Lazarus and confidently said: "Father, I know that Thou hast heard Me." He experienced no doubt as to the fact of His power to bring forth a man four days dead. To hesitant Martha, He spake: "Said I not unto thee, that if thou wouldst believe, thou shouldst see the glory of God?"

He stood before Pilate and quietly said: "Thou couldest have no power at all against Me, except it were given thee from above." He told the frightened populace that angelic legions were at His command. He approached His Cross with a quietness and a calmness, with an assurance and a set purpose, that made the Prophet write: "He was brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth."

3. He wrought with a certainty with which no man ever wrought. All other men would have questioned the outcome of their labor. He never did. He knew with a mathematical certainty what He was about to do, and what would result. He met no surprises in His life, He never was overwhelmed with disappointment. He never attempted any task on a guess. He builded on an impregnable rock. He could say to the ruler, "Thy daughter liveth." He could say to the lepers, "Go show thyself to the priests." He could say to the disciples: "Ye shall find an ass tied." Were His words fulfilled? Yes, the daughter lived; the lepers were pronounced clean; the ass was found tied.
