1292. Some Were Sheltered, and Some Were Not
Some Were Sheltered, and Some Were Not
"And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt" (Exo_12:13).
If there had been a tourist in Egypt, taking in the sights, he perhaps would have made a difference between the Egyptians and the vassal people, Israel, whom the Egyptians had enslaved. The difference, however, from his viewpoint would have been altogether in favor of the Egyptians.
With God, there was also a difference, but it was a difference not of honor, not of wealth, not of position, not of power; it was not a difference of morals, nor of moral issues; it was a difference of "the blood."
When the angel passed over Egypt, he was looking for just one thing, and that was the blood upon the door-post.
When the blood was there, he passed over–when the blood was not there, he passed within.
When he saw the blood, the son was sheltered; when he saw no blood, the son was slaughtered.
1. The distinction of the blood was seen in the case of Cain and of Abel. Both had their altars; both offered their sacrifices: but, unto Cain God had not respect. The offering of Abel was, however, a sweet smelling savor unto His nostrils. What was the difference? It was the difference of the blood.
2. The distinction of the blood is seen in the case of the bitten Israelites. The brazen serpent was lifted up on the pole; a foregleam of Christ, suffering on Calvary. They who looked, were healed; they who looked not, died.
3. The distinction of the Blood is seen in the case of the tribulation throngs who enter Heaven. John saw them there, multitudinous in number. The angel said, "These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the Blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God" (Rev_7:14-15). The rest who had refused the Blood were shut out, they had neither part nor lot, in the Heavenly gathering.
There are some who have church-membership, they subscribe to a creed, they try to live moral lives, but they are not under the Blood. Let all of these remember that it is the Blood that makes the difference.
