He Surrounds Us with His Care

"The Angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them." (Psa_34:7).

We have come to the last consideration. Perhaps we might review the six things gone before.

1. God has us in His heart.

2. He bears us on His shoulders.

3. He helps us with His hands.

4. He undergirds us with His arms.

5. He guides us with His eye.

6. He backs us with His power.

And now we are ready to say that He surrounds us with His care. He is not only at our side, He is not only above us, He is not only beneath us, He is all about us. We are environed with God. Our key-verse tells us that the angels of the Lord encamp round about. The very word "encamp" suggests protection. Let us note a few very beautiful passages which mark God's surrounding care.

1. Psa_125:2 : "As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about His people from henceforth even for ever." The mountains carry the same thought as the word "encampeth" in our key-verse. The mountains suggest protection. As Jerusalem nestled in security, so do we nestle in our God, Who is around about us.

2. 2Ki_6:17 : "And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray Thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha." The King of Syria sent a host, both with horses and chariots, to encompass the city and to apprehend Elisha, but the King of Syria could not touch Elisha, for there was a wall of protection about him that was impregnable. Elisha was surrounded with the horses and chariots of God. Sometimes we are full of fear, but why should we fear? "If God be for us, who can be against us?"

3. Joh_10:28, Joh_10:30 : "I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand." If the Lord Jesus Christ, and God the Father, have hid us in their omnipotent hand of Deity, surely we are safe and need not fear.

4. Heb_1:14 : "Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who are heirs of salvation?" The ministry of angels is not appreciated by us as it should be. It was the angels who came and ministered unto Christ; it was the angels who opened the prison door for Peter; it was the angels who led the Apostle Paul; and surely the angels of God are about the saints, to deliver them.
