Examples of Heavenly Wisdom

"Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus" (Act_4:13).

It is wonderful to see how God chooses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and the weak things of the world to confound things which are mighty; "and the base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought the things that are: that no flesh should glory in His presence" (1Co_1:27-29).

The Lord Jesus Christ is made unto His saints, wisdom.

There are many examples of how God imparted wisdom to those who served Him and obeyed His voice. This wisdom was so great that even the men of the world had to acknowledge it.

Of Joseph it is written, "Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art" (Gen_41:39).

Of Bezaleel it was written, "I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship" (Exo_31:3).

Surely it is true, as Exo_31:6 of the chapter from which we have just quoted says, "In the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom."

Of the four Hebrew children who were carried captive to Babylon we read, "As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams" (Dan_1:17).

Of Stephen it is written, "And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake" (Act_6:10).

Surely God destroyeth the wisdom of the wise, and He exalted in wisdom the childlike faith of the young man Stephen who was filled with the Holy Ghost.

The Apostle Paul had been taught at the feet of Gamaliel and he was wise as men count wisdom; but the Apostle Paul cast out the things which had been gain to him as refuse, and when he went out to preach, he spake not in the wisdom or scholarship of men, but in the wisdom of God.

Peter writes thus of Paul: "Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you" (2Pe_3:15).

What is the lesson in all of this for us?

1. In Christ Jesus are hid all the treasures of wisdom (see Col_2:3).

2. The Lord stands ready to give unto us the spirit of wisdom and of knowledge (see Eph_1:17).

3. If any of us lack wisdom, we should ask of God, for He will give unto us liberally and upbraid us not (see 1Pe_1:5).
