Quench Not the Spirit

"Quench not the Spirit" (1Th_5:19).

The figure before us is that of the Holy Spirit, a fire. A fire creates heat and gives forth light.

This is just what we have been discussing under the mission of the Spirit.

John said: "He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire" (Mat_3:11).

The expression, "Quench not the Spirit," suggests the following: "Throw not water on the fire which the Spirit kindles."
