1411. His Works Bear Witness of Him
His Works Bear Witness of Him
"But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given Me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of Me, that the Father hath sent Me" (Joh_5:36).
Jesus Christ was approved among men by His miracles and works and signs which God did by Him, in the midst of them. The miracle in Cana of Galilee; the stilling of the storm; the feeding of the five thousand, all witness that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, sent forth from the Father.
There were three whom Christ raised from the dead: the daughter of Jairus; the son of the widow of Nain and Lazarus. These certainly bore witness to Christ and proclaimed Him God. It is no wonder that Christ said, "If I had not done among them the works which no other man did, they had not had sin." It is no wonder that Christ said, "Though ye believe not Me, believe the works;" and again, "If I do not the works of My Father, believe Me not."
We are willing to grant that the Apostles did mighty miracles, but they did not do it by a power within themselves. The miracles they wrought, were wrought by Jesus Christ, for He still lives and still operates.
Peter plainly said concerning the healing of the lame man, that it was in the name of Christ, through faith in His name, that the man stood perfect before them. We are willing to grant that satan can do marvelous signs and wonders, but everything that he ever has done, or ever can do, will in no way compare to the mighty works of Christ. Satan is a strong man, but Christ is stronger than he.
Surely Christ's works bore witness of Him.
