1414. Ye Have Not His Word
Ye Have Not His Word
"And ye have not His Word abiding in you: for Whom He hath sent, Him ye believe not.
"For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed Me: for he wrote of Me" (Joh_5:38, Joh_5:46).
We are now beginning to discuss the second part of our theme–why men are not saved. With the five witnesses before them, which have already been presented, they will not come to Christ that they might be saved.
The first Scriptural reason for their refusal is this: "Ye have not His word abiding in you."
The new birth takes place through the Word. The Word is the seed which is sown in the heart, which, being watered by the Holy Spirit, springeth forth unto eternal life.
In I Peter, we read: "Being born again * * by the Word of God." In James we read: "Receive with meekness the engrafted Word, which is able to save your souls." How can a man be saved who rejects the Word of God?
When Paul was preaching, he preached the Word. Paul wrote to Timothy and said, "Preach the Word." The expression "the Word of the Lord," is used more than nineteen hundred times in the Old Testament. Jer_23:28 says: "He that hath My Word, let him speak My Word faithfully." Isa_55:11 says: "So shall My Word be that goeth forth out of My mouth." It is like the snow or the rain that comes down from Heaven, which gives fruitfulness to the seeds sown.
Men are not saved, because they have not His Word abiding in them. They reject the Word, and in so doing they reject life everlasting.
