1536. The Kingdom and the Two Comings
The Kingdom and the Two Comings
"And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS" (Rev_19:16).
1. The First Coming of Christ was climaxed in His crucifixion. He was crucified King of the Jews. When the angel prophesied to Mary of the birth of Christ, he said, "The Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David" (Luk_1:32).
When the wise men sought the infant Babe, they said: "Where is He that is born King of the Jews?" (Mat_2:2).
When John the Baptist preached, he said, "The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand" (Mat_3:2).
When Christ began His ministry, He said, "The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand" (Mat_4:17).
When Christ rode into the city of Jerusalem on a colt, the people cried, saying, "Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord" (Mar_11:9).
When Jesus Christ died, His accusation was written above His Cross–"JESUS OF NAZARETH KING OF THE JEWS" (Joh_19:19).
Thus, in the First Coming, Christ was proclaimed King; He proffered the Kingdom; He was rejected as King; and crucified as King.
Upon His brow, there was placed a crown of thorns, instead of a crown of gold; in His hand was placed a reed, instead of a kingly scepter.
He was the rejected King of the Jews.
2. In the Second Corning of Christ, He will be received as King. The Old Testament Prophets are full of the statement of the kingship of the Lord Jesus. He is to reign upon the throne of David; the government is to be upon His shoulders; He will order and establish the Kingdom in righteousness and in judgment for evermore.
He will wear many diadems upon His brow, and will be known as Lord of lords and as King of kings. He will come as King; He will be received as King; and He will reign as King for evermore.
