1544. The Opponents of the Open Window

1544. The Opponents of the Open Window

The Opponents of the Open Window

"Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the Truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith" (2Ti_3:8).

When Daniel opened his window towards Jerusalem he did it against the direct command of the king. He was opposed bitterly by the rulers and leaders around him.

Whenever the believer becomes interested in prophecy, whenever he opens his window towards Jerusalem, he is sure to meet opposition.

1. Satan will oppose him. The god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, lest the Gospel of the glory of Christ should shine in upon them and convert them. The devil does not care how much of human righteousness and of world betterment the minister preaches, but he opposes any reference to the coming glories of Christ.

2. The rulers of this world, will oppose him. They seek to close the window that is open toward Jerusalem.

They cannot understand the minister which proclaims that the present age lies in the lap of the wicked one.

They are set against the preacher who is a pessimist concerning man's self-regeneration.

They decry most bitterly the teacher who says that the age is rushing toward a cataclysm of terrific judgments. There is no response in the world toward the open window.

3. A false priesthood will oppose him. These perhaps are more bitter in their denunciations than are the rulers of this present world. The men who deny coming things and who shut their windows toward Jerusalem, withstand premillennialists, even as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses. They are not only mockers and scoffers, saying, "Where is the promise of His coming?" but they are bitter against everyone who believes in that coming.

What should be the attitude of those who believe in the more sure Word of prophecy? Should they cringe and cower before the opposition, and haul down their flags.
