One in Directing Service

"Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" (Isa_6:8).

1. The Father Directs Service

"The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ" (Act_10:36).

The Lord Jesus spoke a parable of how the Father sent forth the servant, and last of all sent forth His only Son.

Of course, any one could send another into a field of work, but God has sent forth His servants during six thousand years, has sent them forth in every age to every people, has sent them forth backed with His own power and strength to accomplish His own work. Such a task is far beyond the reach of man who lives but for a day. Only God could direct work in such a way as this.

2. The Son Directs Service

"Even so send I you" (Joh_20:21).

The last act of Christ before He ascended up on high was to give His commission, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature." Certainly this command was not given to the Twelve alone, for the command carried with it a promise: "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the age." Thus, as the Father works, so also does the Son work. As the Father directs the undertaking of a titanic task which covers a period of millenniums, so also does the Son undertake.

3. The Spirit Directs Service

"Being sent forth by the Holy Ghost" (Act_13:4).

From time immemorial, and even unto the end of the ages, the Holy Spirit directs the ministry of the redeemed. He directed the Old Testament Prophets, He commanded the Apostles, and He gives out His orders to the saints.

He is just as much in supreme command of the forces of God today, as He was in the days of Isaiah.

He is still crying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" All must grant that no man could step upon the scene and give orders to the whole Body of Christ.

The pope may attempt a general oversight of millions, but he must soon lay down his armor and pass the way of all men.

The Trinity hold in their hand a directive service which encompasses the whole history of man.
